As part of our diversity initiative, ASHRM has partnered with the Partners for Progress in promoting awareness within the human resource community regarding issues related to employment after incarceration.

Please join us at the Partners for Progress "Reentry Walk" and learn more about the process of being released into the community from jail.

This free “walk in the shoes” tour takes interested community members through the step-by-step experiences of a typical re-entry program client from the initial point of entry into Anchorage from prison, through his/her first day seeking housing, employment and financial stability.

Meet us at the Anchorage Jail's parking lot by the buses at 8:30 am. We'll finish at Bean's Cafe around 11:30 am.

The Partners Reentry Center is a positive way to link reentrants to the community and allow our community to be a part of that reintegration.  The center is part of a broader effort by nonprofits and the state Department of Corrections to reduce Alaska's high rate of criminal recidivism. Each year more than a thousand inmates who have served their sentences are released in Anchorage, often in the parking lot of the city jail. Many go straight to a homeless shelter. Connecting re-entrants quickly with suitable housing, employment, and support services is key to keeping them from returning to prison.
